First, your property is assigned a value. Real property, which is land and dwellings, as well as mobile homes, are valued by the Beaufort County Assessor’s Office. Motor vehicles and personal property, which are things like boats, business assets, and rental property furnishings, are valued by the Beaufort County Auditor’s Office.
Then, the Auditor's Office takes the tax rates for each tax authority and multiplies them with the value of your property. Tax rates are also referred to as a millage rate, which are passed and approved by the governing body of each tax authority; such as your Town or County Council.
The amount of taxes due is then billed and collected by the Treasurer's Office.
Of course, we want you to take advantage of every opportunity to lower your tax bill, so be sure to learn about the tax discounts you may be eligible for.
