The boat I just bought has delinquent taxes due. Am I responsible for paying them?

If you are looking to buy a boat, make sure all property taxes are current before the purchase.

After you purchase a boat and find that the property taxes have not been paid, contact the Beaufort County Auditor's Office with the Bill of Sale to create a tax bill in your name. Then we can continue to collect the delinquent taxes from the previous owner.

Once you have a current year tax receipt, you can take it to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) with your Bill of Sale to finish registering the watercraft.

Helpful Hints!

Taxes must be paid before DNR will renew a watercraft registration or issue a new one.
