I need to register my vehicles. What do I need to do?

Before registering a motor vehicle with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), drivers are required to pay property taxes on the vehicle. Here are the steps to complete so you can cruise around our beautiful county.

  1. Contact the Beaufort County Auditor’s Office with your car information so a tax bill can be created.

  2. It may take up to 48 hours for your bill to be available for payment online. You can pay immediately by visiting our office but if you decide to wait, you won't be disappointed. Visit myBeaufortCounty to pay online. You will receive your e-receipt right away and be given the option to create an account, giving you access to a convenient dashboard where you can manage your tax bills and receipts all in one convenient place.

  3. Bring your tax receipt (or e-receipt on your phone) to any DMV office to complete your registration process.
