I sold my boat. Is there anything I need to do?

If you sold your boat, there are a couple of things you should do so our records are up to date, and to determine if you are eligible for a refund on some of the taxes you paid.

First, provide your sale documents to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) office so they can update your records, and prevent further taxation on that vehicle.

Next, send the documents showing the sale of your watercraft to the Beaufort County Auditor's Office. When you do that, inquire whether you are eligible for a prorated refund of your property taxes. Watercraft taxes are paid in advance so if you sell your watercraft (or move outside of Beaufort County) after paying your taxes, you may be eligible for a partial refund.
