How do I prevent my delinquent account from being submitted to the Setoff Debt program?

There are multiple programs used to pursue delinquent taxes, which include the Setoff Debt Program.

To prevent your property from being submitted to the program, there are a few options.

First, remitting payment before December would resolve the balance and prevent the garnishment of your income tax refund for delinquent taxes.

The next option is to work with the applicable authority to resolve the balance due. The process differs slightly depending on the type of property so please review how to proceed with resolving delinquent business personal property, mobile home, watercraft or boat, and other property types.

Last, but not least, you can submit a protest to the Treasurer's Office within 30 days of receiving your notification letter, which would be reviewed by the Setoff Debt Coordinator for potential resolutions.

Helpful Hints!

Timing is very important in this process. State law requires customers to file a protest within 30 days of their notification letter. Missing any of these resolution opportunities could result in your income tax refund being garnished.
